Are you patriotic? What does being patriotic mean to you?

Jana gana Mana adhinaayaka Jaaya he Bharata Bhagya Vidhata…..or National Anthem always brings tears to my eyes and gives me goosebumps….all patriotic songs have the same effect. If that’s being patriotic then ..yes , I am patriotic.

When India makes her name in the world there’s a warm and golden feeling inside. If that’s patriotism then yes…I am patriotic.

I love being an Indian and also a Bengali.

Aha… Variety is the spice of life

What are your family’s top 3 favorite meals?

When it comes to meals, we have a lot of differences in our family…what with my husband being an ‘eggatarian’, I preferring Veg and daughter….!!!!! She loves any Korean dish.

It becomes a madhouse at times . But the most loved dishes are Rice- my choice, Biriyani – Husband’s choice and Kimchi noodles – daughter’s choice.

Humerus and Ulna , Femur,Patella ….

What was your favorite subject in school?

By now one must have guessed what ny favourite subject was and is…..yeah… it’s Biology!! Specially the Skeleton system. There’s something fascinating about the skeleton system and I used to stare at the skeleton in the Bio lab … mesmerized.

Not only that, I bored to death my friends and family members with my constant spewing off of the different bones in the body. Unfortunately I couldn’t take up Biology in later years as I had a perennial fear of Mathematics and Physics and during our higher education days we had to take these two subjects. But I pursued my career with my next favourite subject… English….yet Biology still remains a desire unfulfilled.

My father

When you think of the word “successful,” who’s the first person that comes to mind and why?

For me success is not being monetarily strong or being known worldwide.Success is when you are a honest individual with a sense of integrity.I call my father successful because it is his success that he had instilled these qualities within us – my sister and I.He was the most honest person I have ever known and he had successfully planted the legacy within us.

Salute to him.

A neighbour in need is neighbour indeed

What makes a good neighbor?

When it comes to neighbourly feelings… Kolkata takes the cake.

You get different types – friendly, noisy, surly, nosy , helpful, spiteful…to name a few! But one thing remains common – your neighbours in Kolkata would jump to help you whatever their feelings maybe for you.

They will go out of their way to help……this is what makes Kolkata unique. You can expect your neighbours to throw garbage in your compound at normal times but in times of difficulty they will lay down their life for you.

This is how a neighbour should be.

An emotion called Durga Puja

Our ancestral puja with the photos of all seniors who have departed

Durga puja is not only a festival….it is an emotion. Being a hardcore Bengali, I cannot imagine missing Durga Puja by going for a vacation during this period, though many go for vacation.

It’s about the blue sky with floating white clouds…the sound of ‘dhaak’, the smell of ‘shiuli and chhatim’ flowers…it evokes a feeling unparalleled by anything in this world. Maybe I am very emotional about this..but Durga puja brings out the emotion in me.

We have our ancestral puja at my paternal aunt’s place and we try not to miss it It is a time when family members travel from wherever they are and attend the puja at home. Believe me, there is no feeling as nostalgic as family get together.

The five days of festivity passes in a giffy , leaving us waiting for the next year. A few pictures to give a glimpse of unparalleled Kolkata Durga puja
